Who is St LORENA?

My artist friend, Lorena, resides in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico. She loves to scour markets and village shops searching for artisan textiles and unique finds.

An initial heap of vintage Guatemalan textile finds has evolved into a growing Latin American textiles collection that I have named St. LORENA in her honor.

How do handmade mugs, fine crystal, creature comforts like tea and gin, all while supporting handmade artisans selling on Etsy, sound for Mother’s Day?

How do handmade mugs, fine crystal, creature comforts like tea and gin, all while supporting handmade artisans selling on Etsy, sound for Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day. A day to treat one’s self as a mother, whether of children or furry ones. And/or a day to honor your Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, or any other divine being kind enough to treat you in a maternal way.  When I think about it, there have been many: neighbors, friends, colleagues, teachers, relatives.  It’s also a day to feel honored for the opportunity to be a Mother. Now that is a cause for celebration.

Some Fabrics Reach Iconic Status, like Mille Fleur

Hello my Lovelies, I am such a fan of this fabric. MILLE FLEUR by Lee Jofa in color way Denim. One of Lee Jofa's oldest patterns brought back as part of their 200th anniversary,  with a palette as 2024 as you can get. This pattern is both iconic and timeless. "Drawn...

Takeaways from 2023 as we move into 2024

Goodbye, 2023.    I'm ready to dust off '23 and move on to '24.  You? Our strength was tested again in 2023, was it not? And I'm not talking about remodeling a kitchen. It's all the other crazy stuff that just keeps happening. Humans are a resilient bunch,...

HELLO FALL, how are you?

HELLO FALL, how are you?

Did you know Saturday, September 22, is the start of Autumn? That’s in a couple weeks. And sure enough, temperatures are dropping just as kids have returned to school.

I have busy getting ready for Fall/Winter with upcoming craft shows and such, and a big focus on my pillows made from Pendleton Woolens.

I live near the Mill End store so in addition to a decent selection of fabric by the bolt they also have what has become a favorite; mill end scraps by the pound, brought in weekly and dumped into large bins on wheels. Along with other craft-makers, artisans, fashion and interior designers, I rummage through the heaps. Its fascinating to see what other people are drawn to and what they intend to make. I have been able to find gorgeous blanket fringe, large plaid remnants with raw industrial seams and can glimpse the new releases and forever classics straight from the mill, being prepped for the next season. All fodder for new and one of a kind designs.

I have a crew of talented folks and here are some recent creations. Pouches in a range of sizes which are great for gift cards or coin purses.

And a newer idea…tell me what you think of these. Plant holders or tidying bins some call them:

With all these products coming in I need to make room in the studio. So, I’m having a BIG SALE – 20% off for the last 20 days in September (including many already marked down items). Watch for the next post to see what’s included. Almost everything that is ready made with the exception of Pendleton wares and made to order items.

Thanks for reading and enjoy these last warm and sunny days of Summer!

STUDIO TULLIA’S 2018 ROSE CALENDAR – Get yours now while supplies last!

STUDIO TULLIA’S 2018 ROSE CALENDAR – Get yours now while supplies last!

Well, folks, we have a new calendar for 2018!

This calendar has been digitally printed on a nice linen/cotton that makes for a lovely, soft, washable tea towel. It measures approx. 15″W X 25″L.    We have hemmed it so that you may hang it up with a 3/16″ dowel and string.  You can also just tack it up and that looks fine, too.

The Cloth Calendar is $24 including shipping.

If you want the Calendar with the Hanging Kit, the cost is $34 including shipping.

If you are handy at all, you can pick up your own two skinny 3/16″ wooden dowels, cut them to the desired width, attach a string at the top for hanging and wallah!

Here it is in my office.  It was cloudy and rainy today so this was the best I could get I’m afraid.

The inspiration for this calendar was a vintage large scale rose floral print I found that looks like it is from the sixties.   Given that Portland is the City of Roses I have been holding onto it and trying to figure out what to do with it so…

We had to figure out which section of the fabric to use which was challenging given the scale of the pattern.

Below is my fabulous assistant, Amanda, who is a constant help with computer graphics and design. (Sorry about the sun glaring in below).

Then we had to figure out the font, calendar numbers and graphics which took a few revisions.

I was trying to capture the fluidity of the artist’s hand on the roses with some added embellishments.

In the end, we settled on a bold font instead for the 2018, that to me has a retro look to it as I just wasn’t that happy with the hand written quality.

I think this is a really happy print, and not at all traditional, given the scale. About this time of year, we all deserve some bright blooms around the house.

I hope you like it!
