ORC FALL 2019 – ARTHUR’S ROOM WK 4

ORC FALL 2019 – ARTHUR’S ROOM WK 4

TEXTILES

This week’s focus was textiles. I am redoing the bed.

It will have:

1) One Duvet Cover
2) Two Euro Shams
3) One-Two Accent Pillows
4) A wool throw or quilt

I use a lot of cotton ticking in our house because it is so utilitarian.   It lessens the cost of things when you put it on the back of cushions and duvets, for example, and it is soft and wears well.   I found this denim fabric above at the WOOLEN MILL STORE and was told it is Levis denim, left over from a job they did.  It washes really well. The blankets and pillows are available at STUDIO TULLIA and some are salvaged pieces I found in the “sold by the ounce” section of the store.  They sometimes have left over Umatilla plaid that they use for their shirts and blanket fringe that I love to add to the ends of pillows.

My son reminded me that he wants the bedding to be super soft and not too itchy.   As much as I love the vintage blanket below it may not work for that reason.  I like how this blanket pulls all the colors in although that particular green is not really what he wants either.  But I think this soft furry pillow might work.

HIGH SEAS WALLPAPER MURAL

We finally decided on the HENDERSON BLUE color way of HIGH SEAS.

The REBELWALLS wallpaper arrived within less than a week all the way from SWEDEN once we finally pulled the trigger.  What a relief to have that decision made.

This next week is all about finishing the walls and getting the wallpaper up.

PAINT COLORS

This has been our greatest challenge. Arthur is holding firm on a pretty bold green. It will not tie into any other color in the room, but stand on its own. Let’s hope it works. The room is all prepped and ready for painting this weekend.

ART

The OWL painting above is by one of my favorite local artists, ELIZABETH SEE, that we are keeping in the room. We have lots of her paintings all over our house.  She has an ETSY site if you want to check out her lovely work.

Recently I went to SCHOOLHOUSE ELECTRIC which is such a cool place.  Not only the lighting, which is reproduction antique (schoolhouse) lighting, but they have all kinds of hardware, furnishings, art, textiles and a lovely cafe where I hung out for awhile.

I’m always inspired when I go in there. They have such creative displays and I love the interplay of new and old.

What I am liking for Arthur’s room is the graphic nature of their calendars and art work.  I would like some sort of combination of images for over his desk so I need to get that together.

Things are getting pretty real with only two weeks left.

 ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

There are a lot of great designers and DIYers working on rooms for the next couple weeks so you should check out their progress:

Wish me luck on the wallpaper installation!

Thanks as always for following along.

HELLO FALL, how are you?

HELLO FALL, how are you?

Did you know Saturday, September 22, is the start of Autumn? That’s in a couple weeks. And sure enough, temperatures are dropping just as kids have returned to school.

I have busy getting ready for Fall/Winter with upcoming craft shows and such, and a big focus on my pillows made from Pendleton Woolens.

I live near the Mill End store so in addition to a decent selection of fabric by the bolt they also have what has become a favorite; mill end scraps by the pound, brought in weekly and dumped into large bins on wheels. Along with other craft-makers, artisans, fashion and interior designers, I rummage through the heaps. Its fascinating to see what other people are drawn to and what they intend to make. I have been able to find gorgeous blanket fringe, large plaid remnants with raw industrial seams and can glimpse the new releases and forever classics straight from the mill, being prepped for the next season. All fodder for new and one of a kind designs.

I have a crew of talented folks and here are some recent creations. Pouches in a range of sizes which are great for gift cards or coin purses.

And a newer idea…tell me what you think of these. Plant holders or tidying bins some call them:

If you’d like to see more, check out my MT HOOD COLLECTION

With all these products coming in I need to make room in the studio. So, I’m having a BIG SALE – 20% off for the last 20 days in September (including many already marked down items). Watch for the next post to see what’s included. Almost everything that is ready made with the exception of Pendleton wares and made to order items.

Thanks for reading and enjoy these last warm and sunny days of Summer!

This week I’ve been trying to settle on the textiles, rug and lighting so I can got those ordered and in the works.  I put together this mood board:

LIGHTING

I have this antique chandelier:

and I am trying to modernize it/freshen it up so I have found a few options…

This is fun, from SASSY SHADES on ETSY:

and I am in love with these, from SHANDELL’S:

I am also looking at SCONCES for above the bed which are really needed for night time reading.  Here are a few I’m considering.  These are all from LAMPS PLUS except for the one that is second from last, which is from TARGET.

I am leaning toward the third pair down as I like the brass and gold combination and it will offer a little contrast.

The look is pretty good for the price of $99/pair.  The last one I would take in a heartbeat but it is a little over budget.

TEXTILES

This was one of my inspiration shots (room by Ana Rosa):

I put together these fabrics that I found at THE MILL END STORE in SE PDX. I like the Japanese toile that has a vintage quality to it and I am adding stripes and ikat.

I am going to use these fabrics for my duvet cover and euro shams:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have some triple pleated BELGIAN LINEN SHADES from WS HOME for this room.  I am going to add a decorative inner edge to liven up the curtains and tie in with the blues in the room.

This is what I will add – a few pleats on each inner side.

It is really nice to step into a soft, plush rug in the morning so I am thinking maybe something like this SAFAVIEH CALIFORNIA SHAG runner from LOWE’s for $83.

PAINT COLORS

I am planning to paint the trim a fresh white.

I was originally planning to paint the dresser indigo blue but I am also playing around with caliente red also.

Only because I can’t get this entry by @maxwhumphrey out of my mind.

And LIGHT GRAY PAINT for the two DOORS

That’s where I am for now.   I would love to hear your comments.  I have some fun art ideas in the works to share with you next time.  Thanks for stopping by.
