Every January I check out the design trends forecasted for the upcoming year. Before I had an online store, I never paid that much attention to trends, but online shopping is so trend driven, that it has become a necessity. It has kind of become a game for me, too, as sometimes the forecasts are right on target and other times, not so much. It takes a year or so for the predictions to take hold and start to show up in and saturate the market. Sometimes, I’ve already spotted trends developing and it is interesting to have them verified by “experts”.
When I am planning new collections, its inspiring and helpful so far as eliminating my choices. Here are some great sources I go to for trend predictions and inspiration:
BENJAMIN MOORE COLOR TRENDS
BENJAMIN MOORE employs a research team to study color trends around the world. Every year they introduce new color palettes. This year’s Color of the Year is:

MAISON OBJET via ELLE DECOR
The big home decor show, Maison Objet, is held every Fall in Paris, and is a great gathering of innovative designers and home decor suppliers. Elle Decor wrote about the trends spotted there and red was showing up along with some other strong trends. Click on the Maison Objet link above for their full article. Here is a quick summary.

DERING HALL is a website that features interior designers, their work and design products. Their trend forecast mentioned ECLECTIC DESIGN as a forthcoming trend as evidenced in this room by Kari McIntosh at the SAN FRANCISCO DESIGNER SHOWCASE.
Furnishings from different periods as well as global, contemporary, and traditional elements all mixed together.
They also mentioned LAYERING NEUTRAL GREENS with MORE BRILLIANT ONES, on display in this room by KATI KURTIS DESIGN.

This was echoed by the PATTERN PEOPLE, a Portland based company that forecasts print and pattern trends.
PANTONE COLORS 2018
Pantone ‘s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman revealed that 2018’s design trends will be around pearlized and translucent glow colors.
COLOR OF THE YEAR- ULTRA VIOLET
Intense colors include bright blue, green, fuchsia, and purple, which are complemented by iridescent tones of turquoise and hot pink, white, and frosted almond.
As well as geometric patterns, typography, fringe, metallics and iridescence on home decor accents.
