a well lived house

I wanted to share the work of Christopher Nutter, an interior designer in Washington, D.C. who recently showcased his work at the DC Designer Showcase. He designed and installed a room in the upper gallery leading into a guest bedroom of the 8,869-square-foot mansion. He along with 23 other design firms took up the challenge to transform this house that was built to suggest a “modern farmhouse” feel.  The theme Christopher ran with was butterflies, flowers and animals along with a powerful use of dazzling blue and white. What’s not to love?  I thought it was magical and loved the attention to detail in every inch of the room.

As stated in an article (see link below) by Michelle Goldchain; “Christopher Nutter’s intention for the upper gallery was to create a light, airy, and whimsical space where the walls were the art. The butterflies, flowers, and animals were hand-painted by artist Gary Goldberg. Nutter said he was inspired by Bunny Mellon and Virginia-based artist Bunny Williams, which caused him to add topiaries, a mirror from Williams’ collection, and a painting by Hunt Slonem, titled, “Untitled Bunnies.”

What do you think?

STUDIO TULLIA provided the lumbar pillows in the two chairs flanking the incredible ribbon embellished table cloth. The fabric is a Schumacher fabric, Adras Ikat in Sky by Martyn Lawrence Bullard.  The lamps, light fixture, chairs, curtains, mirror, accessories are all so carefully chosen and lovely. The room sparkles.

The long velvet bolster was a gorgeous blue Kravet velvet further embellished with a Greek Key pattern made of grosgrain ribbon on each end.  I was afraid the bolster, also by STUDIO TULLIA, was going to be too big.  Thank goodness we didn’t make it any smaller.
