a well lived house

I didn’t want to leave you hanging any longer about my DINING ROOM ORC…I was not able to complete this project in time for a few reasons.

We decided to redo the ceiling tiles which has slowed us down quite a bit.   My husband is doing it himself and now with Summer and the kids out, we have been away for the last three weekends.  The ceiling tiles looked so hideous after we painted the walls, that we determined we better do it now, or we’d never do it.   All four of us were ill with a virus that wiped us out and persisted for weeks right around the deadline of the ORC, not to mention we were out of town the in San Francisco the week before so the timing was crazy.  I had a record Spring promotion on a GORGEOUS pillow collection that I co-curated with the ENCHANTED HOME and that left me spinning for weeks trying to get orders out on time.  I’ve been too frustrated to address the issue publicly, but alas, I have.   So, stay tuned and I will keep you posted on our soon to be lovely dining room!

PAGODA COLLECTION with Enchanted Home – so pretty don’t you think?

BACK TO THE DINING ROOM…

I did get three of the four walls painted in a lovely light gray PIECE OF CAKE by Joanna Gaines/Magnolia Homes that Miller Paint sells. What a refreshing change from the deep orange.

I am planning to do an ombre/accent wall of some sort on the one remaining wall. This is what I am thinking.  This gorgeous wallpaper by John Derian has been my ultimate inspiration. I want to do some sort of gray/light blue wall treatment and if I am brave enough will try to add a few swallows as well. I am experimenting to see how much of this I can pull off.

This is where the DINING ROOM was after one coat of gray paint, so obviously I added another.    This is where I am headed for this season’s pillows and a matching runner for the dining table.   Light, cool, calm.

This photo below was after one coat of white paint.   So happy to see the chandelier carried away after I left it on the curb with a free sign 🙂

Curtains all gone, which lets more light in, too.

Where we are today, with dry wall ready to go on the ceiling. Those old tiles may have asbestos so we are going to just cover them up rather than demo them, have the dust in the air,  and have to pay a fine to take them to the dump.

My husband built these supports to hold up the dry wall as he works.

I am happy with the way this painting turned out after I put a gray stained modern frame on it.   I got this lovely landscape painting at an estate sale a couple years ago.

This beat up floor vent needed to be replaced badly.

Can you believe my husband found a replacement during a remodel he was doing at work!

So between birthday parties, weekends at the coast with kids out of school and regular trips to the pool, this is where we are with this project.

Hope you are having a wonderful start to your Summer.  Thanks for following along.
